Bus shelter
A transit shelter designed for the King and Bay intersection, deep in Toronto’s Financial District.
A large cantilevered canopy, a bench along one side, a lean bar for shorter waits, and a live streetcar and bus map. The roof is a folded plane that bisects the concrete structure, so the shelter reads as one gesture rather than a box with a lid.
The 1:20 model is built from what each part needed to be. Styrene-laminated MDF for the base and sidewalk, five-millimetre acrylic painted to read as sealed concrete, and a 3D printed roof frame with acrylic windows. The bench is real balsa, the planters are printed, and the cigarette butts on the pavement are toothpick tips. The photographs are of the physical model, not renders.
It’s currently on display in a case at Humber Polytechnic.
