Knife set

A wedding gift for Reese and Mickala.

A second-hand Henckels block set, rebuilt. Every knife has a new handle topped with the 3D-scanned head of one of eight friends: me, Jack, Case, Eli, Josh, Timothy, Liam and Kurtis. Each person’s signature is traced into the side of their handle.

The scans were cleaned up and joined to newly modelled grips with lofts, so head and handle read as one form. The handles were 3D printed in ABS, acetone smoothed to a gloss and riveted to the original blades. A plaque with the couple’s initials finishes the block.

Designed with Eli Crawford in Blender, with ideas going back and forth throughout. I did the scanning, slicing and some of the smoothing. Eli did much of the design, printing and smoothing.
